Schizophrenia Support Groups
OK, not everyone is going to understand what it's like to "receive specially encoded messages in the bathroom tiles regarding the transcendence of spacetime" (TM Halation). I sure as hell don't understand, but I at least I won't give you a hard time for it. But you probably do want to talk with people who do have first-hand understanding of what such things are like. I'll do the best I can at least in finding support groups for people with schizophrenia, and not just "families and caregivers." You can, as one fed-up member of the schizophrenic community put it, change your drool cups on your own now and then.

schizophrenia.com It took me long enough to find this site! The description put me off, as it's advertised as being only for "family, friends and caregivers" like half of the sites out there (the other half dance around the issue and don't use the term schizophrenia). While much of the site is geared towards people who don't have the illness, there's a lot here for people who do, in the form of a forum, buttloads of information on treatments, causes and just getting by day after freaking day, and lots of links. Most notably to blogs, so you can see how everyone else is managing to live their lives in their own separate realities.
Viska om Schizofreni - Swedish site. As far as I can tell it is for members of the schizophrenic community, not just families and caregivers. schizoaffective.org - Not really active, but all I could find that's specific to schizoaffective disorder. tribe.net has a really small schizophrenia tribe If you're part of tribe, you know the deal. The Open Directory Guide to Schizophrenia - Far too many of these groups cater only to "family, friends and caregivers." Others mention only symptoms like "those who hear voices." Others are only the web presence of groups that otherwise are just face-to-face. This pisses me off as much as the state of the autism groups. It's as if everyone in the schizophrenia community is incapable of using a computer and is just going to stare into space with a drool cup. Even one of the big mental health sites addressed their schizophrenia information page only to family members, where all their other pages where addressed to either family or those afflicted with the ailment in question. This is a strange form of stigma that somehow rates the schizophrenic as crazier than the rest of us. A practice that many of the bipolar follow, as they will be loath to take antipsychotics because those are drugs for schizophrenics!!
Really folks, if you don't like the sites I've listed, your best bet is to cruise all of the sites that offer A Little Bit of Everything. Many of them have boards dealing with schizophrenia.

If you know of any good Schizophrenia support groups / fora / chat rooms where you don't have to register just to take a look (but I'm fine with guests not being able to post or otherwise participate, just being able to look around is my only criterion), send me an e-mail to jerod23 at gmail dot com and I'll check them out. Even if you're starting your own let me know. There's no guarantee I'll list it, but you never know. English language is not a requirement.
The Overlords of the 12 Zernox Galaxies have compelled me through messages in the Sunday Chronicle to beg you for your support. So if this site has been of use and/or amusement to you, visit the Support Page to find out how you can help. This includes reviewing Crazy Meds for Amazon.com and/or
There's also our Mental Mall to snag some free software or a purchase some books.
Better yet, if you run a business and want to advertise on Crazy Meds, see our page on ad rates and policies. I'm all about fiscal transparency, so follow the money for full disclosure of my finances.
Take care of yourself, and keep taking your crazy meds!

If you still have unanswered questions about this or other medications,
including which one is, or combination of meds are the best for you, your best
bet is to ask on Crazy
Meds Talk. Better yet, if you want to let the world know how they
worked out for you and want to help out others in their quest for the correct
meds, join the party.
If you want to discuss your issues, I suggest checking out one of
the various
support groups online.
Otherwise, if you're letting me know about how much you like or hate the site,
or need to let me know about medication effects in private, then just drop
a note to jerod23 at gmail dot com Honestly, I usually don't have a
lot of time to answer e-mail these days. The snide autoresponse
message that may or may not hit your mailbox is going to tell you the same
thing.
Another problem is that you may not get a response even if I wanted to send you
one. You see, so many dickweeds with malicious intents and too much time
on their hands have appropriated the crazymeds.org domain name to use for their
spam, viruses and the like. Subsequently some lazy-ass e-mail protection
software authors just go by the domain name, and not the IP address. So
I've been blacklisted because of the actions of others. Or the software
just doesn't like the domain name because of the "crazy" and/or "meds." Or
your question about a particular medication will set off spam flags. So
the e-mail just wouldn't go through regardless. Sorry.
Hey, did you find this page all by itself through Google or some other search engine? Great! But to really appreciate the entire site, you need to start here.
